Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who paddles in the Regatta?
Everybody! The event is accessible to people of all abilities.  World-class racers and Olympic paddlers are on the starting line with paddlers experiencing their very first sea kayaking race! But you don’t have to be a serious racer. Widely considered the “BaytoBreakers®” of sea kayaking, the Sea Trek Regatta is perfect for paddlers looking to race competitively as well as those just looking for a fun day on the Bay in support of a great cause! Come One, Come All! Paddlers with disabilities can choose to paddle stable double kayaks with an ETC guide.

What is the Paddle-a-thon?

The Paddle-a-thon is a chance for people to challenge themselves in a race and fundraise in support of ETC’s accessible adventures for people with disabilities and inner-city youth.  Talk with your co-workers, your neighbors, your friends and your family — tell them about the Regatta and the incredible opportunities ETC makes available to people with disabilities and inner-city youth in our communities.  100% of the money raised goes directly towards creating scholarships so that people with special needs can participate in outdoor adventures!

Is there a minimum amount I have to raise?
No. Everybody pays the $55 registration fee (which you can also fundraise for), and after that, the amount you raise is up to you. Depending on how much your raise, you are eligible for great prizes, including a sea kayaking trip to Baja or a Rogue River adventure.

How do I get people to sponsor me in the Paddle-a-thon?
We help make it easy! First register yourself for the Paddle-a-thon by clicking on the "Register to Paddle" button. We'll send you a Paddle-a-thon Fundraising Packet. Then contact people you know asking them to support you by sponsoring your paddling miles.  You can collect checks and cash or people can sponsor you online with a credit card by clicking on Sponsor a Paddler button and selecting your name from the list of paddlers.  If you have questions, or do not receive your Paddle-a-thon Fundraising Packet, contact Kristi Grøtting, Event Coordinator 415-474-7662 x19 outreach@etctrips.org

Do you have any race course tips for me?
Mitch Powers, four time winner and former course record-holder for the Angel Island course, will lead a pre-race Tides and Tactics talk from 7:45–8:30AM. Open to all racers, this talk is great for first time entrants and experienced racers alike. If you register early and commit to raising $300 you can also join Sea Trek for a Paddle Strokes Clinic or an Angel Island Skills Class.

Are volunteers needed?

Yes! Volunteers are essential! Receive a t-shirt, free lunch and enjoy a rewarding day on the beach. You can sign up online or call Kristi Grøtting, Event Coordinator 415-474-7662 x19 outreach@etctrips.org

What about parking?
Sea Trek staff and volunteers will be on hand the morning of the event to help you unload your boat and park.  A reminder: there is no overnight parking whatsoever allowed at Schoonmaker Point Marina. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

How can I rent a kayak?
Kayak rentals are available through Sea Trek. The cost of a rental is $40 for a single, $70 for a double all day (no part-day rentals). Reserve in advance with a credit card by calling Sea Trek at (415) 488-1000.
